Who Are You Becoming?

This is the question that keeps me awake at night. After tucking my kid into bed, kissing my husband good night and reflecting back on a day of working with clients, my perpetual thought is who am I becoming?

And more importantly, is the person I am becoming helping the world become a better place?

We are living in a strikingly vitriolic and toxic social landscape right now. It’s hard to stay optimistic when our feeds are shouting at us with all of what’s wrong in the world. But what needs to be shouted from the rooftops, and I hope what you’ll catch from me now, is that we have agency in deciding the kind of world we experience. We may not have control over a lot of what happens. But we do get to choose how we show up and the role we play in life.

The way you show up in the world matters.

Don’t miss this. The way you show up in the world matters. I won’t bore you with mountains of psychological theory on this, but I want you to recognize the connection between who you are and your impact on the world. It is a consequential relationship.

—> Who you are determines what you believe.

—> And what you believe shapes how you feel and what you do.

—> It’s the small actions we take everyday that ultimately shape the world.

We need to take ourselves seriously. Not to overindulge in navel-gazing, but prioritizing self-discovery is a critical step in participating in the redemption of the world at large. When we focus on who we are and the positive work we are uniquely equipped to do, we become empowered to shape society.

So who are you becoming? Have you given thought today to your personal identity and why you might be alive for such a time as this? If not, I encourage you to pause today and start re-centering on your purpose.
