Let’s Reclaim 2020, Shall We?

What do you want to reap this fall?

By that I mean what kind of experience are you looking to have as we slip into the more regular rhythm of remote learning, pumpkin spice-everything and the radical acceptance that life is no longer as it was?

This summer I took a little time away from social media with a mini-Instagram sabbatical. It was an incredible time to clear my head and start planting seeds for the kind of harvest I’m looking to have this fall. (Side note: it was also a good time to plant a literal garden in our yard full of tomatoes and peppers. You can check out a video of the garden below if you want to see my green thumb.) I don’t know about you but I’ve had enough of the scarcity mentality and fear-mongering that is so prevalent on the internet right now. Couldn’t we choose a little more empathy and abundance instead?

Yes, the world is dark right now and things feel broken. But nothing is beyond repair. Certainly our despair won’t help redeem the problems of the world.

So for September I’m hitting the reset button on 2020. For this last stretch of the year, I’m looking for a harvest. Like a big bountiful basket of purpose, deep connection and contentment. And if there’s one thing I learned from my experience with amateur gardening this summer, it’s this: in order to reap the good stuff later, we have to pay attention to the seeds we are sowing now.

Or as Nigerians say, “Focus on your focus.” It’s time to stop navel-gazing or sitting paralyzed by the weight of the world. It’s time to get back to work and refocus on the small piece of the world we are meant to improve. Each of us has a purpose. The time is now to activate that purpose so we can be the kind of women who don’t sit on the sidelines complaining, but rather get in a huddle to strategize how we’re going to beat the odds.

For what it’s worth, if you’re looking to get off the sofa and connect virtually with some other women around substantive topics, I’d love for you to join my new community. This fall I’m launching Women of Consequence, an online community of women who are catalyzing one another to live on purpose. More details are coming soon but head to womenofconsequence.co if you want to be notified when the community launches.
