Recovery from the Election Hangover
How to Reset and Replenish Now
What a week it’s been! I feel like I’ve just experienced some serious emotional whiplash. Am I the only one? In the wake of last week’s election, I’m re-channeling my energy this week on trying to reset in a few key areas to break through burnout so I can serve the people around me well. Here are some of the things I’m loving this week:
1. THIS QUOTE FROM PETE RICHARDSON
The end of the year is quickly approaching and I’m so grateful for all of the LifePlans I have been privileged to facilitate this year.
In all of the chaos of 2020, women are still focused on figuring out their life purpose and striving to make their best contribution to the world around them. I am honored to have been a part of so many powerful women’s stories.
From investment bankers to stay at home moms, girls’ advocates and advertising executives, this year has allowed me to catalyze women all over the world to step more fully into who they are meant to be. I have one spot for a 2020 LifePlan left. If you know a woman who is ready to stop living a good life and start living a great life, send her my way.
Details on life planning can be found here online: LIFEPLAN INTENSIVE
When the world learned that President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris would receive enough votes to potentially flip Georgia from a red to a blue state, my first thought was of Stacey Abrams. What a model of living out your life purpose? Watch my video at right if you want to hear by I am fan-girling over her this week.
Her impact on this year’s presidential election cannot be understated. And she will go down in history as a true model of what it means for us to be women of consequence (watch out though because she is not done yet).
Here’s the scoop on Stacey Abrams.
She is a graduate of Spelman University, a historically black college located in Atlanta. And she has her law degree from Yale University, that she has used to practice as a tax attorney. While the Former House of Representatives Minority Leader has a long history in politics, she’s perhaps most known for here response to the 2018 midterm governor race in Georgia—that she lost.
That year, Abrams lost the election by 55,000 votes to Governor Brian Kemp. However, she refused to formally concede for 10 days following the election, citing voter suppression and ballots that were yet to be counted. For example, her campaign stated that 77,000 additional ballots (from heavily Democratic leaning constituencies) were not included. Give the small margin in the votes, it’s very possible that she could have beat Kemp.
Rather than packing up to go home, Abrams became even more committed to fighting voter suppression. She continued her work with the Fair Fight organization and mobilized other like-minded organizations through the New Georgia Project.
Abrams work has helped to register over 800,000 new voters in Georgia, votes that are likely instrumental in President-Elect Joe Biden’s win in the state. If you want to learn more about Stacey Abrams, watch the documentary All In: The Fight for Democracy or visit the Fair Fight organization’s website. Currently she and her team are working toward ensuring a fair and free election as two seats are up for reelection in the Senate through a runoff election taking place January 5th, 2020.
I’m no fitness influencer, but I do find physical wellness to be an important part of discovering your purpose. When you take good care of your body, you honor the vessel you use to accomplish your greatest work in the world. Physical wellness helps you stay energized and healthy to execute against your life plan.
I have long struggled with my weight and have had a habit of managing my stress (unsuccessfully) through poor eating patterns. But all of that shifted for me this year when I started using the Transform App. I’m not endorsing this as the be all, end all of diet and exercise (by the way I am not an affiliate). But it helped me develop a new relationship with food that led me to lose 15 pounds in a couple months and finally start exercising.
Focusing on physical wellness can be a helpful way to back into your life purpose. As you get out of your head and back into your body, see what you discover about yourself.
Okay first a wellness app and now I’m going to share my collagen journey with you! Who am I?
But bear with me because it’s delicious. A few years ago I started struggling with hair loss, likely due to stress and some other health challenges I was facing. As a lover of all things coffee-related I tested out making bulletproof coffee and noticed many people added collagen protein to their morning brew. I decided to give it a try and collagen has now become a staple of my morning coffee.
I find that it has helped with the elasticity in my skin and has strengthened my hair. But beyond the “beauty benefits” that many people swear by, I personally love using collagen in place of the popular protein powders. I often struggle to get enough protein in my diet and collagen is a tasteless and simple way to add protein to many of my meals, starting with my morning coffee.
Thinking about trying it? I use the unflavored pure collagen by Elaine Wellness. Get 15% off your first order by using promo code CHANEL at checkout.
5. BURNOUT BOOK
I've spent most of 2020 mentoring various entrepreneurs on how to manage their body's natural stress response. When we perceive what’s happening around us as unfamiliar, potentially dangerous, or as a threat, our bodies kick into a fight, flight or freeze response. Generally, this response is okay as it’s meant to move us to safety quickly. But if we remain in this state for a prolonged amount of time, the impact can be devastating.
I believe a lot of the vitriol we are seeing online right now is rooted in an inability to move out of the stress cycle to a healthier and more adaptive action. This little book, Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle, is a great echo of what I've been teaching if you've sat in on one of my coaching sessions. Plus Brené Brown did a whole podcast on it if you need more incentive to read it!
